The Hout Bay Catchment

The Hout Bay River is the only one of the five rivers rising from Table Mountain that has not been significantly "canalised in concrete".

The river catchment extends from the "back table" and South to the sea. Hout bay is virtually surrounded by the new Cape Peninsula National Park and is one of few river catchments which, shared with SANParks, more or less falls under one MLC in its entirety - the South Peninsula Municipality.

It therefore presents a fine opportunity for an integrated approach to catchment management and with public co-operation, has incredible potential for restoration and eco-tourism  exploitation.
